Two men carry a third between them, his weight slack, legs dangling, against a sky burning red over still water. Kayser paints the scene with the gravity of history painting — the composition and lighting recall Goya's depictions of rescue and lamentation — but strips away any specific narrative, leaving only the raw fact of people carrying each other through something difficult. It's an image about care under strain, rendered at dusk, that particular hour when a day's exhaustion becomes visible.
