Lost Pantheon I (2026)
A classical head lies fallen against a dust-red horizon, the marble surface rendered in cool greys against the warm ground — sky and scrubland scorched into rust and ember tones behind it. Kayser paints the fragment with the same close attention he would a living sitter: the weight of the hair, the closed eyes, the roughness where the sculpture has broken away from whatever body it once belonged to. Part of a loose grouping the artist calls Lost Pantheon, the work sets classical remnants adrift in a distinctly South African light — displaced monuments that echo the crushing weight of history, time, and the illusion of permanence.
