Lull (2026)
A rider sits still on horseback, reins loosely held, the animal's weight settled into stillness. Kayser renders the scene in a hushed register — ochres and greens worked wet into the paper, the horizon dissolving into its own haze. All narrative tension is condensed into the suspended quality of a pause: a moment held before movement resumes. Painted directly onto Fabriano paper, the surface carries the visible evidence of the artist's hand — pooling, layering, the process embedded through washes of oil. Lull continues Kayser's ongoing inquiry into materiality: technique made legible, not simply in service of the image, but part of what the image means.
