Vanitas Revisited (2026)

Sale price R 12,500.00 ZAR

A dense arrangement of tulips, roses, and dahlias, rendered entirely in cool blue-greys against a Prussian-blue ground — a direct nod to the Dutch still lifes that first made the vanitas tradition explicit, wilting blooms standing in for the transience of beauty and life. Kayser strips the palette back to near-monochrome, letting form and gesture carry the symbolism rather than colour. The effect is closer to a faded photograph than to the lush originals it references — a memento mori rendered once removed, revisited rather than repeated.
